The base oil of lubricating oil has the basic characteristics and some service properties of lubricating oil, but it can not produce lubricating oil with all kinds of properties meeting the service requirements only by improving the processing technology of lubricating oil.

In order to make up for the defects of some properties of lubricating oil and give it some new excellent properties, various additives with different functions should be added to the lubricating oil. The amount of its addition ranges from a few to dozens of percent.

There are two main functions of additives:
One is to change the physical properties of lubricating oil, such as viscosity, freezing point, etc;

The second is to increase or enhance the chemical properties of lubricating oil, such as anti-oxidation and anti-corrosion.

The use of lubricating oil additives not only meets the requirements of various new machines and engines, but also extends the service life of lubricating oil and reduces the proportion of lubricating oil demand in petroleum products.
